Saisan, the backbone of the Gas One Group, was founded by my grandfather, Jiro Kawamoto, on October 21, 1945, shortly after the end of war, and this year marks the 75th anniversary of our company.

Since the foundation of Saisan, we have continuously implemented “Customer first policy” while simultaneously adhering to “Safety and Security principal”. Based on these philosophies, we have provided customers with various high-pressure gases including LPG for residential, commercial and automotive fuels as well as other gases for industrial and medical uses together with related products. In 1952, we began handling propane gas (LPG), which at the time was called the “new flame”, pioneering the energy industry of the country. In 1960, my father Yoshihiko Kawamoto, who would assume the second President of the company in the future, visited the USA which was an extremely advanced country at that time. He had accumulated valuable experiences for half a year and had brought back them to our country as the cornerstone of the development of the LPG business in Japan. I received a baton of President on the first day of the 21st century as the third-generation.

LPG has greatly contributed to developing our company as the main product line. It is the most environmentally friendly performance among the fossil fuels with low CO2 emissions. Since the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, “The Basic Energy Plan” published by Japanese Government has stated that LPG should be used as the portable clean energy to support people's lives and industrial activities as a residential/commercial and industrial-use energy, as well as automotive energy. It is also positioned as “the last resort" of energy supply source which is readily available even in an emergency. In recent years, the import of shale-related LPG from USA has increased significantly, thereby results in stable supply and suppressed volatility of procurement costs in Japan.

Until few years ago, the main business areas for the Gas One group companies including Saisan were located in the eastern part of Japan. We aimed to expand our business area toward nation-wide in Japan. To achieve this goal, we have established several sales offices in the Chubu (Central Honshu), the Kansai (West Japan), the Shikoku Island, and the Kyushu Island respectively.

As for the overseas projects, we have been successfully expanding into nine LPG distribution companies in eight Asia-Pacific countries so far, comprising Mongolia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Thailand, Lao, and India. These achievements have resulted from the effective utilization of our LPG safety control technologies and various attentive customer service know-how accumulated in our long business history, which were highly evaluated as a safe, secure and reliable Japan brand. We plan to further expand our overseas business.

Under the ongoing full liberalization program in the power sector in Japan, the retail electricity market for residential use was opened in April 2016. Since then, we have entered this retail market with a new electricity brand, named “Ene One”. We also have achieved some positive results; number of the customers for residential-use are over 210 thousand, the top electlicity marketer among LPG distributors until now. Following the electricity, the full liberalization in the city gas sector has been started from April 2017. We have challenged to enter this market as well. Thus, we will continue challenges to become one of the dominant general energy distributors, handling “gas (LPG and city gas), electricity, kerosene, natural mineral water and their related businesses. And we wish to boldly challenge to become what we call “the most accessible professional home energy partners with the customer”.

The following is our vision in the year of 2045 when we reach the 100th anniversary of the company’s foundation;

“Becoming a premier company of General energy and Living support businesses
in our country and Asia-Pacific region.”

The Gas One group including Saisan is going to make endeavors so that we may achieve the Goal in 2045.
